How It All Got Started

Every Thursday around 10:30 am Dan walks into Starbucks at Square Lake and Woodward, takes out a list and proceeds to order anywhere from 12 to 24 drinks. It all depends on is who at the Michigan Cancer Center getting chemotherapy treatments and wants a drink from Starbucks. Does Dan work there? Nope. Does Dan have a relative there? Not anymore. So why would this man spend his money every Thursday to buy people he does not even know drinks at Starbucks? A number of years ago he found himself bringing his father to the MCI for chemo treatments. One afternoon as he looked around he got the idea to go and buy everyone that was getting treatment a drink of their choice at the Starbucks down the road. Dan’s father has since passed but in his honor he keeps the tradition every Thursday and comes to Starbucks and places his order. I look forward to filling his order on Thursdays and seeing his smiling face. After three years of people asking about why this man buys so many drinks, me telling them the story and them asking how they can donate I came up with an idea. I would get a custom Starbucks card, with “Dan’s Coffee Run” on it for anyone who would like to donate money that will go directly to purchasing drinks for the patients of MCI. If you are interested in donating please see one of the barista’s at the counter and they can tell you how to do it.

Thank you,
Valerie Edgington
